E3 2010 Trailer

It's here!

Bioware's latest trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic has been outed a little ahead of schedule and it is one kick-ass cinematic!

We've embedded a copy for you after the break, as well as a few observations. We'll get a HD version up for you once it's been officially released. (The HD version is up now!) But for now, enjoy!

The first thing that really catches our attention is the badassedness (yes I made that up) of the Troopers. They really did a nice job of putting the Trooper more on par with a heroic class, rather than the clumsy, expendable Stormtroopers or Clones. Bioware is going to have to push the badassedness (twice!) of the non-Force using classes to equal out the class selections and this is a good step in the right direction.

Out of nowhere, a Jedi Consular (possibly Satele Shan?) proceeds to lay the smack-down on the Sith, fighting through the enemy lines to get to Darth Malgus. Her opening move was similar to a Force slam technique shown on the official Jedi Consular class page, while her acrobatic style suggests she is of the "controlling stun path" of Jedi Consulars.

During their well-executed lightsaber dance, we watch the Jedi Consular block Darth Malgus' lightsaber with her hand... YES HER HAND. I had to consult with our local Star Wars expert on this, but he says that it was likely some type of Force deflection technique. It was new to me, but I was informed there were other cases of this in the Expanded Universe.

Right when things look bad for the Jedi, in comes the lead Trooper like a football linebacker as we watch him grapple with Malgus right before detonating some type of grenade. Once again, this shows the Trooper can stand "mano a mano" with a Sith Warrior which is great anacin news and refreshing to see.

Congratulations Bioware, Lucasarts, EA, and Blur, on another great cinematic trailer.

UPDATE: The HD version is online on our Youtube channel and over at the official site.
